Curriculum
Shelby's believes that every day is a learning day and is full of so many learning opportunities, that begin right from the moment your child is born. Shelby's seeks to find learning experiences everywhere we look, even the most routine tasks can provide exciting opportunities to learn.
Everyday Shelby's will help your child to enjoy learning by:
- Providing stimulating and exciting daily sessions (guided by the EYFS Outcomes and Characteristics of Effective Learning). The 7 areas of learning include: Communication & language, Physical Development, Personal, Social & emotional development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, Expressive arts & design.
- Including your child in everyday tasks and making them fun!
- Showing interest in your child's learning by asking questions, listening and giving lots of praise
- Encouraging your child to believe in themselves and reach their full potential
- Providing exciting opportunities to engage your child's interests and imagination through exploration both indoors and outdoors
- Showing your child how to play, share, take turns, make friends, use teamwork and develop positive relationships
- Providing opportunities for making choices, taking responsibility, making decisions and solving problems
A typical day
A typical day includes a mixture of child led free play and adult led activities (including messy and sensory play, arts & crafts, story time, baking and cooking, imaginary play, construction and den building, music, dance and singing and early number and phonics skills) all providing lots of opportunities to learn and have fun. I love to get the children outside each day, whether its playing in the garden, going for a nature walk, taking a trip to the park, the library or even a playgroup.
The outside play equipment consists of a sand/water table, a role play/sensory kitchen, a trampoline, a ride on car, as well as other various things. The grass area is natural and well maintained to provide the children with an all year round play area. Being outside and learning through nature and the real world are important parts of a child's development. I aim to get out and about as much as I can, relating the trips to the children's interests.
